A good dental implant consultation will set your patient up for success during their entire implant journey. And while consultations might seem straightforward, there are a few ways that providers can adjust their practices to make patients even more comfortable. Below, we’ll share five tips for conducting a great dental implant consultation.

1- Let Your Patient Lead the Conversation

When a patient books a dental implant consultation, they usually come to their appointment with plenty of their own research. Allow your patient to explain their goals, concerns, and expectations from the very beginning of their appointment. Letting the patient take the lead will help them to feel more comfortable. Patients who feel understood will also be more willing to listen to their oral surgeon’s opinions.

2- Set Clear Expectations

Dental implants are a process. It’s important that you set clear goals and timelines with your patient. From the first appointment, be sure to explain the realities of oral surgery, how pain will be managed, and when patients can expect to be fully recovered.

3- Use the Right Imaging Tools

Newer imaging tools will give you- and your patient- a better idea of what their surgery outcomes will be. Consider upgrading your x-ray machines, MRI technology, and also your imaging software for better dental implant consultations.

4- Explore Newer Treatment Options

Newer surgical techniques are drastically changing the patient experience. Make sure your patient is aware of different types of dental implants and other surgical options. By giving your patient as many options as possible, you will help them feel in control.

5- Plan Ahead

A little extra planning can also make a huge difference for patients. Dental implants will require multiple dental appointments, plus surgery and then a recovery period. Sit down with your patients, then schedule appointments in advance. Also remind your patient to take time off from certain activities that may interfere with their recovery. Getting the logistics sorted ahead of time will save time and stress in the future.
